Before Getting Curly Hair in 5 Easy Steps

before getting curly hair photo

This is a picture of before starting my 5-step curly hair routine. After about five days of putting all kinds of styling products in my hair and sweating in the gym, my mane desperately needed to be washed. It always gets super dry at the ends, greasy at the roots and just look dehydrated — like it’s actually screaming for some attention. I couldn’t hack the dry straw look any longer, so I made myself wash it, but in a wave of laziness, I was determined not to deal with the whole blow dry scenario. So let me tell you step by step what I did.

STEP 1

I used the Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Shampoo and Conditioner. What I love the most about this shampoo and conditioner is that my hair seems clean, full and super moisturized afterward. It just looks and feels much healthier. The shampoo creates a nice lather and you don’t have to use a lot to achieve that. This curly hair shampoo and conditioner combo really brings out the curls in your hair.

STEP 2

Natural wet curly hair after washing with curl talk products

After washing my hair, I squeeze out the excess water, but don’t dry it with a towel. For the most beautiful curls, you want your hair to be wet, because the water works with the styling products and gives amazing results. Next, I apply some of the Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk Curl Defining Cream” and use a wet brush to detangle my hair at the same time. Once the product is spread through my hair, I scrunch up my hair with my hands just a little to help shape the curls.

STEP 3

As the final step in my curly girl routine, I apply the “Not Your Mother’s Frizz Control Sculpting Gel.” This gel has a medium hold. I spread the gel in my hands and use the “Praying Hands Method” to gently coat my hair with a light coating of the gel. If you decide to copy this method, make sure to start with a small amount of gel, so you can always add more if needed. Once you place this gel on your hair, avoid touching your hair during this stage. Touching your hair at this stage will almost guarantee that you will end up with frizzy curls.

STEP 4

Just chill and wait for your hair to dry. If your hair is like mine, it will take several hours to fully dry. Avoid touching your hair while the gel is drying in it because this will absolutely result in frizz. If you don’t have any patience, you can also use a blow dryer with diffuser a diffuser to dry your hair faster.

STEP 5

Once your hair is fully dry, you want to crunch out the scrunch. You curls will have formed, but when you touch them, they will feel hard to the touch. This is the gel that formed a cast on your hair. To eliminate the crunchiness of your hair, you want to squeeze out the crunch. Just scrunch up your curls and squeeze your curls in between your palms. Do this all over your hair to eliminate the hard cast. You will be left with soft bouncy curls.

The “Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk” line absolutely works like a charm. I like that the products don’t have an overwhelming scent and do what they say they do.
